Performance Management includes activities that ensure that goals are consistently being met in an effective and efficient manner. Performance management focuses on the performance of an organization, a department, employee, or even the processes to build a product or service, as well as many other areas.
How many times have you heard the saying, "If you can't measure it, you can't manage it?" An organization's measurement system affects the behavior of people, both in and outside the organization. Without a solid and accurate measurement system people have no idea how well they or the organization are performing, and are not able to take action or initiative to perform at higher levels. However, measurement alone will not improve performance. An effective performance management and counseling system is needed to create and maintain a motivated workforce in the 21st century.
How do we develop our “human capital?” In almost all industries, our employees are our most critical assets, particularly in the service industry where they also represent the bulk of our expense. How do we gain their willing cooperation? How do we help them to become motivated to perform their tasks and duties in a professional manner?.
